To join our brokerage, you’ll need to meet certain requirements. You must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and pass a background check. You’ll also need to complete a pre-licensing course and pass the state licensing exam. Once you’re licensed, you’ll be able to work as a salesperson under the supervision of a broker.

Getting Licensed as a Salesperson in Iowa and Nebraska

To become a licensed real estate salesperson in Iowa or Nebraska, you’ll need to complete a series of steps. Here’s an overview of the process:

  1. Complete a Pre-Licensing Course: Before you can take the licensing exam, you’ll need to complete a pre-licensing course. In Iowa, the course must be approved by the Iowa Real Estate Commission and include at least 60 hours of instruction.  This Iowa Realtor website has more information on the pre-license and required courses.  In Nebraska, the course must be approved by the Nebraska Real Estate Commission and include at least 60 hours of instruction.  More information can be found at the commission website by clicking here.
  2. Pass the Licensing Exam: Once you’ve completed the pre-licensing course, you’ll need to pass the licensing exam. The exam covers topics such as real estate law, contracts, property ownership, and agency relationships. In Iowa, the exam is administered by PSI Services LLC, while in Nebraska, the exam is administered by Pearson VUE.
  3. Apply for Your License: After you’ve passed the licensing exam, you’ll need to apply for your license. In Iowa, you’ll need to complete an application, submit your exam scores and proof of pre-licensing course completion, and pay a fee. In Nebraska, you’ll need to complete an application, submit your exam scores and proof of pre-licensing course completion, and pay a fee.
  4. Find a Broker: Once you’ve been licensed, you’ll need to find a broker to work under. Your broker will provide you with guidance, support, and supervision as you begin your career as a salesperson.
